History and Operations

Established in 2015, Barahsinghe Beer Factory was created by enthusiastic Nepali entrepreneurs with a zeal for brewing. Situated in Kurintar, a town within the Makwanpur district of Nepal, this brewery crafts an array of beer styles, including lagers, ales, and stouts.

Utilizing locally-sourced components, such as pure Himalayan spring water, malted barley, hops, and yeast, Barahsinghe produces distinctive and flavorful brews. The beer production process involves multiple stages, including milling, mashing, boiling, fermentation, and packaging.

Dedicated to sustainability, the brewery harnesses renewable energy sources like solar and hydroelectric power. Additionally, it prioritizes recycling and repurposing waste materials to lessen its ecological footprint.

Types of Beer Produced in Barahsinghe Beer Factory

We will explore the different types of beer produced at Barahsinghe Beer Factory, including their ingredients, brewing process, and tasting notes.

Lager

Lager is a popular beer style known for its crisp, clean taste and light body. At Barahsinghe Beer Factory, the brewery produces a variety of lagers, including Pilsners and Helles.

The lagers are brewed using locally-sourced Himalayan spring water, malted barley, and noble hops. The beer is fermented at low temperatures, which gives it its signature crispness and clean finish. The Pilsner is light and golden, while the Helles is slightly darker and amber.

Ale

Ale is another popular beer style known for its fruity, full-bodied flavor. At Barahsinghe Beer Factory, the brewery produces a variety of ales, including Indian Pale Ale (IPA) and Belgian Dubbel.

The ales are brewed using locally-sourced Himalayan spring water, malted barley, and a variety of hops. The beer is fermented at warmer temperatures, which gives it its fruity flavor and full-bodied texture.

The IPA has a golden color and a strong hop aroma, while the Belgian Dubbel has a darker color and a malty, caramel-like flavor.

Stout

Stout is a rich, dark beer style known for its roasted, coffee-like flavor. At Barahsinghe Beer Factory, the brewery produces a variety of stouts, including Milk Stout and Russian Imperial Stout.

The brewery makes the stouts with locally sourced spring water from the Himalayas, roasted malted barley, and a selection of hops.

The beer is fermented at warmer temperatures and then aged in oak barrels, which gives it its rich, complex flavor. The Milk Stout has a sweet, creamy flavor, while the Russian Imperial Stout has a bold, roasted flavor.

Wheat Beer

Using locally sourced Himalayan spring water, malted wheat, and various hops and spices, Barahsinghe Beer Factory brews various wheat beers, including Hefeweizen and Belgian Witbier.

Higher fermentation temperatures give the beer its fruity, spicy flavor. Brewers use a lot of wheat and malted barley when making these beers.

The Hefeweizen’s hazy and banana-like appearance contrasts with the Belgian Witbier’s cloudy, citrusy, coriander-like flavor.

Fruit Beer

Barahsinghe Beer Factory makes fruit beers such as Mango Ale and Raspberry Wheat by incorporating fruit puree into the beer, which imparts a fruity flavor and aroma.

To make the fruit beers, they use locally sourced Himalayan spring water, malted barley, a variety of hops, and fruit puree. During fermentation, warmer conditions make it easier for fruit flavors to infuse into the beer.

The Mango Ale has a sweet, tropical flavor, while the Raspberry Wheat has a tart, berry-like flavor.
